Twenty Four
Twenty Four is a beat tape containing 24 tracks based on the 24 hours in a day. It’s a reflection on the unique moments and hours of each day. Learning to be present, and to recognise God’s presence in every moment. Twenty Four started as a way of collecting together beats I’d been making over the last couple of years, but it developed into something much more. I spent the year trying to be intentionally aware of the unique attributes of certain times of day: the way the light changes, the mood and atmosphere of the night in contrast to the day. I began to learn how to see and hear God in these moments, not just in my planned out quiet times or church meetings. I started to see the theme running through scripture: in particular Psalm 19 and Ecclesiastes. That every day God paints his masterpiece in the sky, his handiwork that speaks out to all the earth if we’re willing to listen.

The beat tape is made up of 24 tracks, each around 2-3 minutes. Total runtime is just under an hour. In terms of genre, it’s a mostly electronic project, ranging from lo-fi hip hop and chilled electronica in the day time, to more driving dance-inspired beats in the evening, and experimental / minimal ambient pieces in the late night hours. 9 of these tracks have vocals but many are instrumental. (I wanted to capture the idea of constant prayer - sometimes it’s literal spoken words to God, sometimes it’s just being aware of Him without necessarily needing words).
The whole project is designed to run as one piece, from waking up at 7am, to sunrise at 6am. A lot of time was taken on the running order, and the transitions between these moments.
