I find you

Usually I find you in familiar places
The psalms, the hymns and spiritual songs
But through the raised voices and turning pages
I heard a different invitation
This time, I found you outside

I found you in the swaying of the trees through the window
The dappled light on the carpet
I found you in the things you made
And the things they made
The light beams swirling in the haze
Tamed winds and hammer on string
In movements like the summer breeze
In poetry and LEDs
In galleries and movie scenes
In home cooked food and loose leaf tea
I found you with the ones I love
In holding hands and laughing until we cried

And somehow, where I least expected
In places I had left neglected
The vast absence that I protected
You led me to the hurt I buried and told me there to wait
Til pain and weakness show their face
And lead me slowly to the place most in need of healing

And shovelled down in covered dust
Desire to be fully loved
Lay shining like a pearl
I found you there, too
